I have to admit, when they said they were located in Portrero, I was thinking somewhere by Portrero Ave. and 16th. Definitely wasn't prepared to trek out there. My appointment was at 8am, and I was a bit late. But they were great, and repaired my car in about 15 minutes and sent me on my way. I still made it into the office before 9am. I really appreciate how friendly they were, and how quickly they made the repair. Thanks to those guys for taking my last minute appointment, and getting me to work on time. I will definitely be back there again.

They rule. The End. I drive a '91 VW Cabriolet. Needless to say although she is beautiful, she seems to love going in to the shop. Lucky Rand and Aaron have a special place in their hearts for her...The only problem is that the shop is getting so popular that it always takes a week to get my car in to get serviced!Have never been more happy with my mechanic. I will only be sad when Rand finishes his Firefighting certification and leaves to go save lives...

As far as I'm concerned, there's only one place in San Francisco to fix your VW or Audi. Lemme give you some back story... so I love my VW, but every year I've had to shell out around $500 to $1500 for something, wheel bearings, tie rods, rack and pinions (twice in one year actually, the second time it was still under warranty). I've been kind of shell-shocked to take my car to a mechanic, and I'm even hesitant to drive my 2000 Jetta at this point... not anymore.Immediately when you walk in, you feel something that is lacking from so many other establishments... Trust. Sure, it's not in the best section of town, but it is walkable to CalTrain and their shuttle is super-helpful. When I got my car repaired today, I told Randy that I was cool just walking when I got off CalTrain. As I was getting on CalTrain, the shuttle driver called me just in case I needed a ride so I took him up on it.Taking my car to Advanced has finally made it fun to drive again.

These guys destroy the reputation that auto mechanics have gained over time for their profession.I initially met Randy, and my second time there I met Aaron. Both these guys are super cool, that dont look at us as "walking ATM's". While hanging out in their lobby, I came across a guy that was pleasantly surprised to be charged less than he was expecting to pay, another woman happy to be back and to deal with Aaron, and another dude that felt comfortable enough to talk to Aaron about his car, like I would talk to my kids pediatrician about a bad case of gas (not that I have either kid or pediatrician).Having found mechanics I can trust, Im going to have them replace my timing belt. Im confident that they will price me well and do a fantastic job, so look for my addition to this review once that is completed!

No complaints from me! They made everything easy, from the attempt to give me an estimate the first time I called to dropping my car off and picking up the same day, and then paying for it over the phone and getting a receipt in the glove box. Very nice guys with reasonable prices for parts and labor.

i would give them 10 stars if i could. maybe even one hundred. i HEART randy, aaron, & everyone else here. seriously. what do i know about cars? absolutely nothing. i like mine b/c it's cute - seriously. i don't like that it breaks on occasion. it's an '96 audi A4 though, so of course it's going to break (and often) as it gets older. what i like even more is that i've been going to these guys for probably close to 3 years now & wouldn't even consider going anywhere else. they are honest, won't rip you off, and care about maintaining an honest relationship. after dropping off your car in the AM, they will take you pretty much anywhere in the city in the old VW van they have, but just realize that you might not be at work on time.they've worked with my extended warranty to fix numerous things & have also performed my standard services. even though it might be time for me to get a new car, i almost don't want to get anything other then an audi b/c i don't know where i'd take my car to get serviced. gotta love these guys . . . i do!

Randy runs the best shop I've been to in SF, and I've been to a bunch. Although a bit out of the way in the city's industrial armpit, Advanced has done excellent, reliable, trustworthy work on my '99 VW GTI. Although I hope I'll never have to take my car to the shop again (yeah, right), I'm glad to have such a reliable source for the next repair.

I brought my 99 jetta in for service and they knew exactly what was wrong with it before I left the car. The quote was accurate and i never felt like they were trying to upsell me on anything or get me to do anything I didn't need. The guys there were professional and friendly. My car was ready pretty much when they said it would be... I'm sold. Next time my crappy VeeDubb breaks down, I'm taking it back here.

The reviews here are correct, these guys (Aaron, Randy, Lucas) are top. I recently took my 2001 GTI VR6 for service and they fixed the handle on the seats, hood, lights - all without charge. Just that alone would of ran me over $100 if I took it to the dealership. They also diagnosed problems with my car that other mechanics couldn't: my car would make this mad crazy sound that would scare small children and animals on startup. Aaron was able to quickly figure out what it was and even knew at what point the extended warranty would cover it ...
